Medigold’s Summer Work Experience – Investing in Future Talent
At Medigold Health, we are always looking for opportunities to promote careers in occupational health. Following the success of our 2021 summer work experience programme, we decided to run the scheme again this July, to give our colleagues’ family members who have recently finished school the chance to gain valuable insight into the world of work.
Inspiring and supporting the next generation
Running over two weeks, the initiative allowed the participants to meet and talk with representatives from multiple departments across our business about our different working practices and how the various areas of our organisation operate. They were also given the opportunity to attend 1-1 sessions to learn a bit more about key areas of interest to them.
Four candidates took part in the programme and the feedback both from them and the Medigold Health Representatives who participated has been overwhelmingly positive, so we wanted to share some of it with our friends and followers.
Ethan Bone (nominated by Alex Goldsmith, CEO)
When I went into the Leadenhall clinic I had an amazing experience. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming and easy to get along with and it was a dynamic and comfortable work environment. Shadowing the clinicians for the time I did allowed me to have a small taste of the clinical side of Medigold Health. Additionally, I was able to see how medicals, drug and alcohol tests and ECGs were completed. I feel like I learned a lot from the experience and really appreciate the time the staff took to allow me to shadow them.
Dr Amrita Sen Mukherjee – Director of Wellbeing
I think this was a great initiative. Occupational Health offers a variety of career opportunities and knowing that this programme has enriched these young people’s understanding of OH and could help them make more informed career choices makes it a really worthwhile project. I enjoyed meeting the students, learning about their interests and found the experience as a whole really exciting.
April Mitchell (nominated by Rachael Staal, Customer Service Advisor)
The work experience was interesting and insightful. It gave an in-depth overview of each of the departments.
Jane Winter – Head of Environmental, Social and Governance
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to provide the participants with an overview of our current Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy and the work Medigold Health is doing to make a difference for our people, communities, customers and the environment.
I found all of the young people I met to be very engaged, polite and interested in the work of Medigold Health. The feedback they provided on my presentation was both very positive and also useful, as it is now being rolled out to all our colleagues across the organisation.
I wish all these young people every success as they complete their studies and begin their careers, and hope that one day they may even join our team!
Leah Ezoba (nominated by Silvia Ezoba, People Advisor)
I am glad I had the opportunity to experience the world of work. I enjoyed meeting with the various managers and asking them about their roles. The slide shows were interactive, and it gave me a wonderful insight into how different areas of expertise contribute to the success of a company. Overall, the work experience programme was beneficial for me.
April Cremins – Sales Consultant – Occupational Health and Absence Management
The meeting with the work experience candidates was very positive and they asked some really thought provoking questions. Despite already having very clear ideas about their future careers and what type of work they wanted to pursue, they were still interested to learn more about the various different roles within Medigold Health and the work they involve day to day. We spoke about the different types of organisations that we come into contact with and work with and both the positive aspects and the challenges of sales. All the candidates were a pleasure to speak with.
We would like to say a huge well done to all those involved in organising the scheme and a massive thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to support it and once again make it such a success.
