Introducing Judith Bird – Head of Mental Health at Medigold Health

As a qualified clinical and health psychologist, I serve as the Head of Mental Health at Medigold Health, specialising in assessing, diagnosing, and treating complex mental health issues.

My focus extends beyond individual care to encompass promoting good health and preventing illness through understanding human factors. This involves optimising healthcare systems through education, projects, and public health campaigns.

With a background encompassing significant roles within NHS and public health services, I’ve concentrated on areas such as chronic pain, eating disorders, addiction, and substance use. My passion lies in unravelling the complexities of human thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Academically, I’ve delved into the neurobehavioral foundations of addiction, contributing to the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications and international discourse. During my time in public health, I explored health strategies and interventions at the population level, while my NHS experience provided insights into managing diverse conditions in community-based settings, from eating disorders to chronic pain.

With over 15 years devoted to public health, research, and service development, I’ve navigated various realms—from the busy corridors of NHS services to the dynamic landscape of academia, culminating in my current role at Medigold Health, where I head the Mental Health division.  Reflecting on my journey, I’m continually struck by the rich tapestry of human experience.

Empowering Your Organisation: A Strategic Approach to Mental Health

Today, we are facing unique challenges. Healthcare is a fundamental need, but resources are limited. The healthcare industry is dealing with many problems, including individuals living longer, chronic illnesses, and a limited recruitment pool, all of which are often exacerbated by differences in wealth and technology. Other big issues increasing the pressure on healthcare include geopolitical and economic challenges and climate change.

We find ourselves in a world where we are witnessing a growing number of experienced workers exit the job market. Simultaneously, there is a concerning rise in mental health challenges among young people, who represent the future of our workforce.

As public resources are limited, we are forced to think about different ways to support people without access to public treatment services. A wider approach to healthcare, one that focuses on prevention and protection instead of intervention, opens the door for new allies.

Employers can play a crucial part in helping us manage the health challenges we face by providing safe and secure workplaces and raising awareness through providing educational information campaigns to their employees.

At Medigold, our strategic approach to mental health focuses on empowering organisations to look after the mental wellbeing of their employees’.

Developing mental health awareness can significantly reduce the cost to your business, reducing absence, increasing productivity and of course, help to improve the happiness and mental wellbeing of your employees.

Our mental health training courses combine an overview of mental health conditions and their effects, equipping your workforce with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to implement practical and preventative measures, ensuring your employees can thrive.
